FAQ

  • Are appointments online or in-person?

In-person sessions are available in Toronto, Ontario (Christie/Bloor location); and virtual sessions are available across Ontario. I use the Jane app, an encrypted form of video calls, which is compliant with privacy laws like PIPEDA and PHIPA.

  • How much do sessions cost?

    $180 – 50-minute sessions; $260 – 80-minute sessions.

I reserve a limited number of sliding-scale spots and offer them to those experiencing financial hardship/who do not have private insurance coverage. Please email me to add your name to my waiting list.

  • How often are sessions and how long?

Therapy is a personal journey, and its duration varies based on specific concerns or challenges, needs, goals, circumstances, desire to heal, and speed of progress. Some individuals start therapy with one specific issue or concern, while others come to explore deeper, more complex issues that require more time – and reduce the frequency over time based on their needs and progress. As you will learn in sessions, slowing down, being present with your inner experience, and attuning to that will get you where you need to go faster.

  • What can I expect from the first session?

The first session is scheduled for 50 minutes (and longer sessions, 80 minutes, are available if requested). It is an introduction and an opportunity for us to review informed consent and confidentiality, explore your personal history relevant to your concern(s), as well as goals and hopes for change as a result of therapy. The initial session is also about us establishing a connection, a therapeutic relationship, to make sure you feel safe, heard, and respected.

To prepare for the first session, I ask my new clients to fill out an intake form. During the first appointment, I also encourage clients to ask any questions they may have about the therapeutic process and my therapeutic style.

  • Is psychotherapy covered by OHIP?

My services are not covered by OHIP. However, psychotherapy services may be covered by private extended health benefit plans. Please confirm your coverage for Registered Psychotherapists (RP) in advance.

Receipts will be provided via email/the Jane app, and you can submit them to your insurance company for reimbursement. Direct billing is not available at this time.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, I require that clients provide a minimum of 24 hours’ notice. If you are unable to provide sufficient notice, or if your appointment is missed for a non-emergency reason, the full session fee will be applied. You may cancel or reschedule your appointment by email or by accessing your online account up to 24 hours in advance. Please be aware that insurance companies typically do not cover the fees for cancellations or missed sessions.

  • What forms of payment do you accept?

Payment can be made by credit card (via the Jane app), or e-transfer, and is due at the end of your appointment.

  • How do I determine if we're a therapeutic fit?

As an integrative therapist, I am trained in various evidence-based modalities and most prominently draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) in my work. I also use elements of other modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), mindfulness, and body-based interventions, to meet each client's unique needs.

My methods are collaborative and focused on helping clients recognize their emotions more accurately and use them as a compass for growth. I am interested in the unique details of your experiences and the meaning you make of them, your strengths, as well as your history and its relevance to your current concerns. By blending emotionally focused therapy, sensorimotor (body-based), and skills-based approaches, the aim is to help clients develop mind-body awareness, become more aware of their patterns, regulate and process emotions, and develop a more secure sense of self and confident ability to connect with others. Please note that I do not provide structured therapy that includes homework assignments or weekly worksheets.

Choosing the right therapist involves more than learning about the therapist’s theoretical orientation and style. Since every therapist approaches therapy from their own perspective, and every client responds differently to a given approach, only you know the factors that will allow you to invest and stick with therapy. “Fit” is also about the connection (the alliance) you have with your therapist. So, in the process of choosing a therapist, it’s important to consider the following questions and pay attention to your gut feelings: Do I trust this person’s ability to be understanding and non-judgmental about my concerns? Are they open to receiving feedback?
